Just Thinking…

In a few weeks, as a church family we'll be having an AGM. This will be a chance for us to have a stock take, a look at what we have been doing over the last year, programmes, events and ministries. Yet, the main thing we will be discussing in this AGM is the budget.

Yes, this is a paragraph about money!

Finances are fundament part of our lives in an affluent 21st-century century community. And I love the fact that as Baptist we are very open about money, what our budget is, and what we spend it on. But I am aware that we (especially me who is on staff) can get caught up in the idea that the churches are always talking about money.

This hit me a few weeks ago when I was leading our Sunday gathering, as I was praying for the donations we had collected. In that moment, I was reminded that RBC’s finances aren’t the total picture of our churches giving. That what is given to pay for running the church (including my wages) is only a small expression of the generosity you all have. Many of you who contribute to RBC also are involved in many other areas of service. You give to World Vision, Tearfund, Kids Can, City Mission, and I am confident the list goes on.

So, over the next few weeks, as we focus on our Church budget, I want to highlight and celebrate these other areas we are supporting. If you are willing and able, I would like to know all about these different organisations you support, through giving of our time or finances. I don’t want to know amounts; I just want to celebrate the many areas God has called us as a Church to support. Because I know that you all have such a positive impact on so many people’s lives around the globe!

Nāku iti nei, nā,
Matt
