Just Thinking…

It has been a week of resignations and the announcement of resignations. Leighton Smith retired this week after 33 years on radio. Steve Hanson announced his upcoming resignation as All Black coach. Both of these are big names with big influence. Yet the resignation that moved me most this week was that of Peter Ayson, principle of Meadowbank Primary School, leaving after 20 years of leading this school. I watched as he stood in front of a room packed with children and their parents, struggling to keep his emotions in check as he reflected on the highs and lows of two decades of service. “There have been a number of highlights … ,” he said. But then he looked at the uplifted faces of over 400 school kids, and said to them, “… but you are the reason I did this. And working for you did not feel like work.” Committing yourself to benefit others in an area you are passionate about is one of the most fulfilling things you can do in life. Where have you invested in people in 2018? Where are the places that your life has intersected with others in ways that have left blessing? And how would you like to invest in people next year? Let’s be inspired by Jesus this Christmas, who, by being born as one us, showed a commitment to people that is remarkable. And it’s one that he will never resign from.
